How SwabTek works

  1. Collect

A gloved hand collects a sample from a vape with a SwabTek swab

Use the supplied swab to collect a sample from the substance, item or surface. The correct collection method depends on your kit and sample.

  2. Apply

A swab tip touches the reagent zone of a SwabTek Cannabis test card

Transfer the sample to the dry reagent, following your product’s specific sequence, preparation and timing. Some tests require additional steps or equipment.

  3. Read

Compare the reaction with the product’s reference guide. A presumptive screen is not a conclusive identification. Confirm results through an approved laboratory.

This is an overview, not a substitute for your kit’s instructions. Procedures, timing and result colors vary by product.

The dry-reagent advantage

No hazardous liquids to mix.

The reagents are dry and set on paper. No hazardous liquid reagent bottles to pour or mix.

No glass ampoules to break.

Test cards replace breakable reagent ampoules. No glass crushing as part of the test.

No special reagent disposal.

The non-hazardous test components need no reagent neutralizer or special disposal procedure.

Dry reagent describes the test chemistry. The collection swab or pen tip is premoistened to collect a sample. Follow your kit’s instructions for use, and your procedures for handling sampled substances, contaminated materials and evidence.

Read the product manuals

The instructions
are part of the kit.

Product generations, target substances and procedures differ. Read the current instructions that accompany your kit, and explore SwabTek’s manuals and training before use.

A screen, not a diagnosis

Tests screen collected substances and residue. They do not establish whether a person has used a drug or is impaired.

A target list, not one universal test

Some kits screen several substance classes. A positive result does not necessarily distinguish one target from another.

No assurance of safe consumption

A negative result does not establish that a sample is safe. Sampled consumables should not be consumed, regardless of the result.

What does a presumptive test tell me?

It provides an initial indication that a target substance may be present in the sample tested. It is not a conclusive identification. Follow the product instructions and obtain laboratory confirmation.

Do these kits test a person?

No. These kits screen collected substances and residue on items or surfaces. They do not establish whether a person has used a drug or is impaired.

How do I choose the right test?

Start with the substance you need to screen for, then choose an available pack size. Each kit has its own targets and instructions. For larger orders, ask the SwabTek team about custom bulk pricing.

Can I order for a whole department?

Yes. Professional kits are available in multi-test packs through the SwabTek store. For a department, school or security operation, request a quote for the products and quantities your team needs.
