SwabTek announced the formation of the Guardian Coalition on February 28, 2023, alongside the National Association of School Resource Officers, the National Drug and Alcohol Screening Association and Law Enforcement Against Drugs and Violence. NDASA published its own account of the initiative in March.
The coalition's announced approach brought together educational programming, substance-screening tools and prevention training for educators, parents and community leaders. Its proposed school program paired those tools with staff education and the development of safety and prevention policies.
The shared idea was that a product alone is not a complete response. Adults need to understand the issue, the information a test can provide and the next steps available to them. The launch brought school safety, screening and prevention organizations into the same conversation about supporting families and communities.
